Ocean Delight Cottages are located in Canada's most easterly province, Newfoundland & Labrador. They are situated in the Baccalieu Trail region of the Avalon Peninsula, 1 hr. 15 min. from St. John's and 50 min. from the Argentia Ferry.

The Baccalieu Trail has two entry points from the TransCanada (Route 1). One entry is from Whitborne by Route 80 (Exit 28) and the second is by Route 75 (Veterans' Memorial Highway) from the Roaches Line intersection. (From Route 75, you can take Route 73 to New Harbour.)

Whiteway and Heart's Delight are closer to the Whitborne access. Check-in for all cottages are at Ocean Delight Cottages, Whiteway at the mustard yellow chalet (on the ocean-side of the highway). There is a sign saying "Office". Check-in is between 4 pm. - 7 pm. Check-out by 11 am. If need be, other times can be arranged. Ocean Delight Cottages in Heart's Delight are about 3 - 4 minutes drive north from the Whiteway cottages.

From each set of cottages, the Atlantic Ocean reaches to the horizon from your deck, providing a breath taking view! Watch for whales playing and breaching in the ocean. You can observe these magnificent animals in their natural habitat. The spray from their blow-holes as they come up for air, rises like a geyser. In front of the cottages, there is a small beach where thousands of caplin roll during the spawning season. (Late June to early July.) Bald eagles and other birds frequent the area, so keep your binoculars nearby!

The town of Heart's Delight, which has a history of European landings going back to the mid 1500s, cares for its two walking trails, including the spectacular costal walking trail. The costal walking trail leads directly from the cottages along the shoreline to the town of Heart's Delight.

Pitcher's Pond Golf Course is located in the beautiful and peaceful community of Whiteway.

 

Ocean Delight Cottages are the perfect starting point to explore the many attractions in the Northern Avalon. There are things to do and see in all directions, and the area has several loops, so you can drive to a point such as Bay de Verde or Cupids, and come back by a different route. You can have a different adventure in each community along the way. Discover North American roots in more than 20 museums, including the nearby Heart's Content Cable Museum and significant archaeological sites. Participate in daily events held in most communities around the Baccalieu loop over the summer months. Inspect scenic walking and hiking trails, looking for local wild life including moose and caribou. Enjoy many activities, including swimming, mini-golf, fishing, boat tours, kayaking, horseback riding, and much more.

All the Avalon Peninsula, including the capital city of St. John's, with its historic sites and famous night life, is within easy driving distance.

Many naturalists are excited to find that Heart's Delight and Whiteway are close to the Avalon's three world class ecological reserves. Witless Bay has the largest Puffin colony, along with iceberg and whale watching. At Cape St. Mary's you can literally walk to the edge of the cliff and closely observe a sea stack which houses thousands of nesting gannets and murres. Baccalieu Island is the largest seabird island in Newfoundland and Labrador. The island supports the greatest diversity of breeding seabirds of any of our seabird colonies. More Leach's Storm Petrels breed here than anywhere else in the world.
